Here is what I have learned for a 2 year old, medically, lately:
For Diaper Rash:
Blot the actual rash with adult formula Malox on a cotton ball. This counter-acts with the rash and clears it up if it hasn't already formed yeast. If a rash has existed 3-4 days, it has probably formed yeast. For this, you use Lotrimin Foot Cream (in the Adult foot care isle). It is the same formula used to clear up athlete's foot and clears it up within 3-4 days. (works.) Aquaphor is a great 'blocker' to prevent diaper rash, as well as Bordeoux's Butt-Paste.
For Diarrhea:
Push liquids such as Pedialyte or Gatorade (not watered down) to keep them hydrated. Juices and milk may make the diarrhea worsen. If they have an appetite, feed them starches to harden the stool. (breads, rice, potatoes, etc.) If they have 10-15 episodes of diarrhea within one day or seem 'out of it', or are running much fever, see the doctor. Also, if it lasts longer than 3 days, call the doctor.
